Spirit Airlines Halts Operations, Stranding Passengers Amid Bankruptcy
Spirit Airlines has announced the cessation of all its flights, effective immediately, following its failure to secure a government bailout and its inability to emerge from a second bankruptcy. The budget airline has begun an 'orderly wind-down' of operations, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. In response, other U.S. carriers like American Airlines, United, Southwest, Delta, Allegiant, and Frontier have stepped in to offer 'rescue fares' to affected passengers. The U.S. Department of Transportation has advised travelers to check with other airlines for potential ticket acceptance or discounts. Spirit has stated that refunds for flights purchased with credit or debit cards will be processed automatically, but those who used other payment methods may have to wait for the bankruptcy court process.
