Cancer Survivors Highlight Importance of Representation and Holistic Care at ASCO
During the ASCO conference in Chicago, three cancer survivors shared their personal experiences and insights on improving cancer care. Megan Claire-Chase, a breast cancer survivor, emphasized the critical need for diverse representation in clinical trials, highlighting her own challenges as a woman of color with atypical symptoms. Jenna Benn Shersher, founder of Twist Out Cancer, discussed the therapeutic power of creative expression, sharing how her blog evolved into a coping mechanism and community support system. Boluwatife Adeola Aofolaju, a brain tumor survivor, underscored the ongoing struggles faced by survivors post-treatment, advocating for better support systems to address the emotional and psychological challenges that persist beyond remission.
