British Hacker Pleads Guilty to Major Cybercrime in U.S. Court
Tyler Robert Buchanan, a 24-year-old British national, has pleaded guilty in a U.S. court to charges of conspiracy to hack into numerous company networks and stealing millions in cryptocurrency. Buchanan, part of the hacking group Scattered Spider, was arrested in Spain in 2024 and charged later that year. He admitted to conducting phishing attacks to steal credentials and personal information, which were used to access company systems and steal sensitive data. The group also engaged in SIM swapping to bypass security measures and steal at least $8 million in cryptocurrency. Buchanan's sentencing is scheduled for August 21, following the sentencing of his co-conspirator, Noah Michael Urban, to 10 years in prison.
