New Jersey School District Faces Scrutiny After 9-Year-Old Left Asleep on Bus
A 9-year-old boy in Blackwood, New Jersey, was left asleep on a school bus and later found wandering the district's bus yard. The incident occurred after the boy, who was attending summer school at Union Valley Elementary School, fell asleep during his morning bus ride. His mother, Wanda Chandler, was informed by the school district that her son had not arrived for the start of his final day of summer school. The boy woke up alone on the bus, managed to open the door, and sought help in the bus yard. A district employee eventually found him and brought him inside. Chandler expressed concerns about the safety protocols in place, especially since her son has ADHD. The district notified Child Protective Services, and the boy was transported to school for the remainder of the day. Chandler criticized the district for not providing adequate answers and called the incident unacceptable.
