Bosnia and Herzegovina Advances with Acquisition of Leonardo AW119 Helicopters for Military Enhancement
Bosnia and Herzegovina is moving forward with the acquisition of six Leonardo AW119Kx helicopters for its military, marking a significant investment in its armed forces. The decision was highlighted during a visit by the country's Minister for Defense, Zukan Helez, to the U.S., where he took a test flight on one of the helicopters. This acquisition, facilitated through a $100 million U.S. Foreign Military Sales process approved by the State Department in May 2025, includes pilot training, flight simulators, spare parts, and maintenance equipment. The helicopters are manufactured by Leonardo Helicopters in Philadelphia, and this purchase represents the first time Bosnia and Herzegovina is procuring brand-new helicopters, aiming to modernize its military capabilities.
