Fireworks and Drought Raise Wildfire Concerns Across the U.S. This July 4th
As the United States approaches its 250th Independence Day, the demand for fireworks is surging, with retailers like Phantom Fireworks anticipating record sales. However, this increase in fireworks usage is causing significant concern among fire officials, particularly in drought-stricken western states. According to USA Today, the combination of low winter snowfall and higher-than-average temperatures has created conditions ripe for wildfires. In mid-April, a fire in Lake City, Florida, ignited by fireworks, burned over 10 acres, highlighting the potential dangers. Fire officials are particularly worried about illegal fireworks, which have been entering the country in large quantities, primarily through Southern California ports.
