Flossmoor's Recyclepalooza Event Successfully Fills Donation Trucks
Flossmoor's annual Recyclepalooza event, organized by the Green Commission, successfully filled donation trucks with unwanted items from community members. The event, held at Parker Junior High's parking lot, saw a continuous line of cars from 9 a.m. until the trucks were full by 11:30 a.m. Volunteers from the Green Commission and students from Homewood-Flossmoor High School's National Honor Society assisted in collecting items. The event, moved to April to align with Earth Day, allowed residents to donate items such as bikes, TVs, clothes, and household goods. Organizations like Helping Hands and the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) participated, with CHaRM collecting electronics. The event also featured a recycling education initiative led by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, using a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant to promote recycling.
