Lockport City Council Overcomes Absenteeism to Approve Self-Storage Business Timeline Extension
The Lockport City Council faced an unusual challenge during a recent meeting when several members, including Mayor Steven Streit, were absent, leaving the council short of the necessary votes to approve an annexation agreement amendment for a self-storage facility. The meeting, held on July 15, required a two-thirds majority to pass the amendment, which would extend the construction timeline for the facility at Lockport Square. With only four members present initially, the council was unable to proceed until Alderman Joanne Bartelsen was contacted and rushed to the meeting to cast her vote. The amendment was eventually passed unanimously, allowing the construction on the 2.25-acre facility to continue without interruption, with an expected opening next spring.
