Ernie Dosio, a 75-year-old grape grower from Lodi, California, was tragically killed during a hunting expedition in Gabon, Central Africa. The incident occurred on April 17 when Dosio, who was tracking a species of antelope in the Lope region, was unexpectedly charged by a herd of elephants. The elephants, capable of reaching speeds up to 25 miles per hour, trampled Dosio, resulting in his death. Dosio was a seasoned hunter with multiple African expeditions under his belt. He was also known for his humanitarian efforts linked to his hunting trips, which included supporting local communities and children.
