President Trump Establishes Commission to Design U.S. Space Academy
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to create a Presidential Commission tasked with designing the United States Space Academy. This proposed NASA-led federal academy aims to prepare future generations of Americans for careers across the military, civil, and commercial space sectors. The initiative follows President Trump's establishment of the Space Force during his first term, marking the first new armed service in over 70 years. The academy is envisioned to train not only Space Force officers but also engineers, operators, and civil servants essential for the expanding Space Force, the commercial launch industry, and ambitious lunar and deep-space missions. President Trump emphasized the need to educate and train a skilled workforce given the rapid growth in these areas, drawing parallels to established service academies like West Point and Annapolis. The commission will be chaired by the NASA administrator, with White House science and economic policy advisers serving as vice chairs.
