Record October Heat Wave Scorches California
California is experiencing a record-breaking October heat wave, with temperatures soaring up to 20°F (11°C) above normal across the state. Cities like Los Angeles and San Diego are under extreme heat warnings, while heat advisories have been issued for San Francisco and Sacramento. Los Angeles is expected to see temperatures as high as 102°F (39°C), with the heat wave potentially lasting until October 9. This event could rank among the top 10 most intense heat waves in Los Angeles history, according to the AccuWeather HeatWave Counter and Severity Index™. San Diego recently recorded 105°F (41°C), marking its first 100°F (38°C) October day since 1987. The heat is also affecting Northern California, with temperatures in Fresno and the San Francisco Bay Area reaching 10–15°F (5–8°C) above average. Offshore winds and a diminished marine layer are contributing to the unusual warmth, even along coastal areas.
