US Threatens Increased Travel Restrictions on China Over Deportation Standoff
The United States is considering imposing stricter travel restrictions on China due to Beijing's reluctance to repatriate Chinese nationals residing illegally in the U.S. A senior official from the Trump administration indicated that China has been slow in accepting deportees, a situation that has persisted despite previous agreements. The issue is expected to be a significant topic during President Trump's upcoming visit to Beijing, where he plans to discuss it with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The U.S. has been facing challenges with a growing number of undocumented Chinese nationals, which surged during the Biden administration due to economic difficulties in China and stricter U.S. visa policies. Currently, over 100,000 undocumented Chinese nationals are in the U.S., with more than 30,000 having final orders of removal.
