Triple-Digit Heat and Wildfire Smoke Expected in Colorado as Monsoon Fades
Colorado is bracing for a significant shift in weather patterns as the monsoon season temporarily shuts down. A strong Southwest heat dome is moving into the region, bringing triple-digit temperatures to Boulder and Denver starting Sunday, July 30, 2026. This heatwave is expected to challenge daily record highs, with temperatures potentially exceeding 100°F (37.8°C). Additionally, wildfire smoke from the Pacific Northwest is forecasted to infiltrate the area, leading to reduced visibility and elevated ozone levels. The drying trend is already evident, with water vapor imagery showing drier air moving into Colorado. While isolated storms may occur Thursday and Friday, moisture levels will drop below normal by the weekend, effectively halting precipitation. A brief cooldown is anticipated early next week as a cold front moves in, but the heat may return shortly thereafter.
