New Human Tissue Model Advances Glioblastoma Research
Researchers at the University Hospital Bonn and the University of Bonn have developed a new model, Core2Edge, to study glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. This model, based entirely on human tissue, captures the infiltration zones at the tumor margin, allowing for the investigation of invasive tumor cells and the assessment of new drug candidates without animal testing. Glioblastoma is known for its invasive behavior, with tumor cells migrating into healthy brain tissue, making it difficult to completely remove and leading to recurrence. The Core2Edge model combines glioblastoma organoids with human brain tissue, enabling researchers to track tumor spread and study the genetic activity of individual tumor cells.
