The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has initiated an accelerated review of the broadcast licenses held by Disney's ABC television stations. This action follows a controversial joke made by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel about First Lady Melania Trump, which led to public condemnation from President Trump. The FCC, led by Trump loyalist Brendan Carr, has been investigating Disney's diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Disney is required to file license renewals for all its licensed TV stations by May 28, earlier than the originally scheduled dates in 2028 and 2031. Disney has expressed confidence in its compliance with FCC rules and its ability to demonstrate its qualifications as a licensee.
