European Union Seeks to Leverage Investment in Argentina's Critical Minerals Sector Through EIB and Global Gateway
The European Union (EU) is actively working to deepen its relationship with Argentina to leverage investment in the critical minerals sector, aiming to open a new stage of financing. This initiative is driven by the EU's need to diversify suppliers and secure supply chains for critical raw materials, which are essential for its energy transition and industrial competitiveness. The EU's strategy, outlined by Ambassador Erik Høeg, involves connecting Argentine projects with European financing and buyers, and developing local infrastructure, capabilities, and governance. Institutions like the European Investment Bank (EIB), along with MIGA, the World Bank, the IDB, and AFD, are providing financing instruments, guarantees, technical cooperation, and infrastructure to reduce risks for mining projects. A €5 million technical cooperation program is also set to be signed before the end of the year.
