Minnesota AG Sues Texas Governor Over ICE Agent Extradition for Assault Trial
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed a lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott, seeking to compel the extradition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Christian Castro. Castro is charged in Minnesota with assault and falsely reporting a crime related to the January 14 wounding of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in Minneapolis. Prosecutors allege Castro fired a gun through a door, striking Sosa-Celis, and then falsely claimed Sosa-Celis and another man attacked an ICE officer. Castro was arrested in Texas in May. Ellison's lawsuit aims to prevent Castro's release from jail next week, which could occur after 90 days under Texas law, and to ensure Governor Abbott signs the extradition warrant. Ellison expressed concern that if released, Castro might flee to Mexico, citing calls Castro made from jail about marrying a woman there and buying a house.
