George Mason University Partners with TreQ to Establish Virginia's First Open-Architecture Quantum Computing System
George Mason University has announced a partnership with Oxford-based frontier computing company TreQ to bring the first open-architecture quantum computing system to Virginia and the National Capital Region. This collaboration marks a significant step in establishing advanced quantum infrastructure in the U.S. The new system, which will be located on one of George Mason's Northern Virginia campuses, represents the first U.S. deployment of a computing system based on TreQ’s proprietary Open Architecture Quantum (OAQ) framework. George Mason University is investing $7.7 million in the system, with strategic support from the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC). The system is planned for delivery and installation in early 2027, with commissioning expected by late summer 2027.
