LAUSD Superintendent Chait Highlights Academic Gains Amid Budget Crisis
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Superintendent Andrés E. Chait delivered his first annual 'state of the district' address, focusing on rising student test scores and a sense of community within the schools. Despite facing a projected multibillion-dollar deficit and declining enrollment, Chait emphasized stability and the district's achievements in academic performance. The district reported a three-year trend of growth in English, math, and science scores, with 48.3% of students meeting or exceeding state standards in English. However, the district is also dealing with financial challenges, including a potential $3.585 billion deficit by 2029, which has led to oversight from the Los Angeles County education office.
