DHS Highlights Birthright Citizenship Concerns Amid MacDill Bomb Plot Case
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that the parents of suspects involved in a foiled bomb plot at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida are illegal immigrants. The parents, Qiu Qin Zou and Jia Zhang Zheng, were taken into custody by ICE agents on March 18, following their son Alen Zheng's alleged attempt to plant an explosive device outside the base. The case has brought attention to the issue of birthright citizenship, as both Alen and his sister Ann Mary Zheng, who are implicated in the plot, were born in the U.S. and are citizens. The Trump administration has argued that this case underscores national security risks associated with birthright citizenship, a matter currently under review by the Supreme Court. Alen Zheng is charged with attempted destruction of government property, while Ann Mary Zheng faces charges of accessory after the fact and evidence tampering.
