McHenry Police Resolve Standoff After False Gunfire Report
In McHenry, Illinois, a police standoff concluded peacefully after a man reported firing a gun and claimed his mother had been killed. The incident began when the McHenry Police Department responded to a call from a man who stated he had fired a handgun into the air and that his mother was deceased. Upon arrival, the man refused to leave his residence, prompting police to advise nearby residents to shelter in place. The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System's Emergency Services Team was called in to assist, but the report of additional armed individuals inside the home was found to be false. After approximately two hours, the man exited the home voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment, as he appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis. The police have not confirmed the man's claim about his mother, and no further information was released as of Friday night.
