Extreme Heat and Poor Air Quality Persist Across Midstate
The Midstate region, including Tennessee and southern Kentucky, is experiencing extreme heat and poor air quality this week. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Tennessee and south-central Kentucky, while an Extreme Heat Warning remains active for southwest Kentucky through Friday. Daytime high temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s to near 100°F (37-38°C), with heat indices ranging from 105-110°F (40-43°C) in most areas. Higher elevations, such as the Plateau, will see slightly lower heat indices of 100-105°F (38-40°C). Poor air quality is also a concern, particularly in central Middle Tennessee, where conditions are deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups, including the elderly, children, and individuals with heart or lung conditions. The extreme heat and air quality issues are expected to persist through Saturday.
