Gordie Howe International Bridge Opens, Enhancing US-Canada Trade Connectivity
The Gordie Howe International Bridge, connecting Windsor, Ontario, Canada, with Detroit, Michigan, USA, officially opened on July 27, 2026. The bridge aims to enhance trade connectivity between the two countries, providing a direct highway-to-highway link between Ontario's Highway 401 and Michigan's Interstate-75. The first passenger vehicle to cross the bridge was driven by Gordie Howe's family, while a Tecumseh trucking company was the first commercial vehicle to make the crossing. The bridge features six traffic lanes, 16 toll lanes, and 60 inspection lanes, facilitating efficient movement of goods and people across the border.
