Chris Brown Seeks New Trial Following $12.9 Million Dog-Bite Judgment
Chris Brown, along with his company Black Pyramid LLC, is challenging a $12.9 million judgment related to a dog-bite incident involving his former housekeeper, Maria Avila. The judgment was handed down by a Los Angeles jury after Avila was attacked by Brown's 200-pound Caucasian shepherd, Hades, at his Tarzana home in December 2020. The attack resulted in Avila suffering from lasting facial disfigurement, partial vision loss, and nerve damage. Brown's legal team has filed for a new trial, citing irregularities in the proceedings, jury misconduct, insufficient findings of innocence, and excessive damages awarded to the plaintiff. The new-trial hearing is set for September 22, amidst Brown's ongoing R&B tour with Usher.
