French President Macron Blames Hezbollah for Attack on UNIFIL Soldiers in Lebanon
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a French UNIFIL soldier was killed and three others were injured in an attack in southern Lebanon. The attack, which occurred on April 18, 2026, was attributed to Hezbollah by President Macron in a post on X/Twitter. The soldier killed was identified as Sgt. First Class Florian Montorio of the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment. The injured soldiers were evacuated to a nearby hospital. UNIFIL confirmed the attack, stating it was carried out by non-state actors while a patrol was clearing explosive ordnance. The Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, condemned the attack, highlighting the harm it causes to Lebanon.
