Double Meteor Shower: Lyrids and Eta Aquariids Light Up April Skies
This weekend, skywatchers are in for a treat with two meteor showers gracing the night sky. The Lyrids meteor shower, which began earlier this month, will peak between April 21 and April 22, offering an optimal viewing experience with 15 to 20 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. The American Meteor Society suggests that the evening of April 22 will provide the best opportunity to witness this celestial event. Concurrently, the Eta Aquariids meteor shower, which starts on April 19 and continues until May 28, is expected to peak with up to 50 meteors per hour, although the nearly full moon may reduce visibility to about 10 meteors per hour. The Lyrids originate from the Lyra constellation, while the Eta Aquariids are linked to the Aquarius constellation, both visible in the eastern sky.
