MSU Space Cowboys Rocketry Team Wins International Competition on 20th Anniversary
The Mississippi State University Space Cowboys rocketry team celebrated its 20th anniversary by securing first place in the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) held in Midland, Texas. Competing against 143 teams from 16 countries, the Space Cowboys' rocket, named Bandit, achieved the highest flight in team history, reaching an altitude of 29,518 feet. This victory marks the second time the team has won the top overall award, with their previous win in 2015. The team, which began in 2006, has consistently excelled in the 30K COTS category, which involves rockets with a maximum altitude of 30,000 feet using commercially available components.
