Greenville Police Report: Suspect in Officer-Involved Shooting Has Extensive Criminal Record
The Greenville Police Department has provided further details regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on April 13 in downtown Greenville. The suspect, Xavier Washington, aged 20, is accused of injuring himself and two officers during the incident. According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Washington struggled with officers who were attempting to detain him for alleged public intoxication, leading to the discharge of an officer's holstered gun. Washington also reportedly bit the hand of a second officer. All parties involved were hospitalized and later released. Washington has a significant criminal history, including a hit-and-run incident on I-85 earlier that day, where he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle. His criminal activities extend beyond South Carolina, with active warrants in Maine for various offenses.
