Sunnyvale Police Arrest Two Individuals in Connection with 80 Pounds of Stolen Mail Across Bay Area
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety has arrested two individuals following an investigation into community mailbox thefts, recovering over 80 pounds of suspected stolen mail. The stolen mail, which included checks, credit cards, and other personal identifying information, originated from various Bay Area cities including Mountain View, Menlo Park, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Sausalito, and Oakland. The investigation, initiated in July after a trend in mail theft reports was identified, led detectives to discover burglary tools and suspected methamphetamine at the suspects' residences. One suspect was observed breaking into community mailboxes in San Jose with an accomplice, both of whom were on parole. The thefts primarily targeted large apartment and condominium complexes with centralized mailboxes, utilizing a tool that allowed access while leaving the mailboxes appearing locked. The suspects have been booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
