Indiana's Blackout License Plate Generates $13 Million for BMV Upgrades
Indiana's blackout license plate has generated $13 million in revenue for the state over the past year, with over 300,000 Hoosiers purchasing the specialty plate. Governor Mike Braun announced that this revenue is being used to fund significant upgrades and improvements at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), aiming to create a smoother experience for residents. A portion of the funds has already been invested in new kiosks that offer an alternative to traditional in-branch services, allowing for quicker transactions. These kiosks are designed to be state-of-the-art, enabling customers to complete various tasks in approximately five to ten minutes. The blackout plate is available for passenger motor vehicles, light trucks under 11,000 pounds, motorcycles, and RVs, and costs $45. Michael McCowin with BMV Connect Kiosk highlighted the convenience of these new kiosks, noting that they provide an efficient option for residents.
