Inspector General Clears Stamford Officers in December Standoff Shooting Leading to Suspect's Suicide
The Office of Inspector General has officially cleared three Stamford police officers—Captain Chris Baker, Lieutenant Jose Alvarez, and Sergeant Matthew Romano—who discharged their weapons during a December standoff that ultimately resulted in the suicide of Jed Parkington. The incident, which occurred on December 2 of last year, began when a state marshal arrived at Parkington's Stamford home for an eviction. Parkington, dressed in a military-style uniform with a Nazi insignia and a belt of suspected explosives, pushed his wife out and warned the marshal of a violent outcome. Police determined he had registered firearms and had barricaded himself inside, prompting the deployment of the Hostage Negotiation Team and Special Response Team. After hours of failed negotiations, armored vehicles rammed the front door, to which Parkington responded by firing at the vehicles and throwing an explosive device.
