Federal Government to Transform Kentucky Uranium Plant into AI Data Center and Gas Power Complex
The U.S. Department of Energy is converting the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky into a $100 billion AI data center and gas power complex. This initiative, part of a broader strategy to repurpose Cold War-era sites, involves private equity funding and aims to bolster U.S. AI capabilities. The project includes a new natural gas and battery storage power plant, with Brookfield Asset Management leading the development. The transformation aligns with national security priorities to maintain AI superiority over China. The site, undergoing cleanup since its closure in 2013, will host a large data center and power generation facilities.
