Israel's Attorney-General Challenges Appointment of New Mossad Chief Over Integrity Concerns
Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara has informed the High Court of Justice that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to appoint Maj.-Gen. Roman Gofman as the next Mossad chief is legally untenable. The appointment, set to begin on June 2, was approved by the Advisory Committee for Senior Appointments. However, Baharav-Miara argues that the committee's process was flawed, particularly concerning Gofman's past conduct involving the activation of a minor, Ori Elmakayes, by Division 210 without proper authorization. The committee was divided, with its chairman, former Supreme Court president Asher Grunis, dissenting due to integrity concerns. The attorney-general's stance has sparked criticism from coalition figures, who accuse her of opposing government decisions.
