U.S. F-15E Shot Down Over Iran, One Crew Rescued as Second Evades Capture
A U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over Iran during Operation Epic Fury, marking the first confirmed loss of a U.S. manned aircraft in the region. The aircraft, assigned to the 494th Fighter Squadron, was downed during combat operations. One crew member has been rescued by U.S. forces, while the second remains on the ground, evading capture. The incident occurred in southwestern Iran, with evidence pointing to Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Iranian state media initially misidentified the aircraft as an F-35, but U.S. officials confirmed it was an F-15E. The situation remains tense as U.S. forces attempt to recover the second crew member.
