UN Launches System Data Commons to Centralize Global Data for Decision-Making
The United Nations has launched the UN System Data Commons, a new online platform designed to consolidate data and statistics from 26 UN entities into a single, accessible gateway. Secretary-General António Guterres unveiled the platform, emphasizing its role in making trusted public data more readily available. The platform, accessible via data.un.org, allows users to search nearly 44 million data points using natural language, explore trends, compare information across various topics and countries, and trace data back to its original source. This initiative aims to streamline access to the UN's extensive data, which was previously dispersed across numerous platforms, thereby enhancing its utility for informed decision-making. The project is a result of the UN80 initiative, focusing on shared infrastructure to improve efficiency and accessibility.
