UN Launches System Data Commons to Centralize Global Data for Decision-Making

This initiative aims to streamline access to the UN's extensive data, which was previously dispersed across numerous platforms, thereby enhancing its utility for informed decision-making. The project is a result of the UN80 initiative, focusing on shared infrastructure to improve efficiency and accessibility.

These discussions are part of Djibouti's broader digital transformation initiatives, which include the recent unveiling of its five-year National AI Strategy for 2026–2030. DCO Founding Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya met with H.E. Safia Mohamed Ali Gadileh, Djibouti’s Minister Delegate for Digital Economy and Innovation, to explore opportunities for strengthening collaboration on the country's digital agenda. Djibouti, a member state of the DCO, aims to leverage digital transformation to achieve its Vision Djibouti 2035 goal of tripling income per capita. The engagement also highlighted the significant role of women in driving digital transformation, with AlYahya commending Gadileh's vision for Djibouti's digital future.

The General Services Administration (GSA) has appointed Ryan Parker, an AI engineer from the Treasury Department, to lead the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS). This change follows the unexpected administrative leave of Anne Petersen, the long-standing leader of USWDS. Sam Corcos, the Treasury Department’s chief information officer who recently assumed multiple roles at GSA, including acting director of Technology Transformation Services, acting deputy commissioner for the Federal Acquisition Service, and acting assistant administrator for Login.gov, made the appointment. Individuals associated with USWDS have reported losing access to GitHub repositories, which restricts their coding capabilities, though Parker and Corcos retain access. GitHub records indicate that both Parker and Corcos have been making modifications to the main USWDS repository, including the integration of a Coderabbit AI code reviewer. The GSA and Treasury Department have not yet commented on the personnel changes.
