Kentucky State Women's Basketball Player Freed After Two Months in ICE Custody
Aminata Seck, a Kentucky State University women's basketball player from Senegal, has been released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after two months. A judge granted a $2,500 bond for Seck, which was posted after ICE did not appeal the decision. The judge determined that Seck was neither a danger to the community nor a flight risk. Seck, who is 26 years old, was detained on August 7 at Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport while preparing to travel with her team to a tournament. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had previously stated that Seck entered the U.S. legally in 2019 but overstayed her welcome, and an immigration judge had ordered her removal a year prior after she failed to appear at a hearing.
