Senator Ed Markey Leads in Massachusetts Democratic Primary Poll Against Representative Seth Moulton
A new poll indicates that Senator Ed Markey holds a significant lead over Representative Seth Moulton in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate Democratic primary race. The UMass Amherst/WCVB poll shows Markey with 60% support among likely primary voters, compared to Moulton's 32%. This represents a substantial shift from a July University of New Hampshire poll, which had Markey's lead at only 6%. Voters in the recent poll identified Markey's progressivism as a key trait and perceived him as the more liberal candidate. While Moulton, 47, has centered his campaign on the need for a new generation of leadership, highlighting Markey's age (80) and extensive time in office, the poll suggests that Democratic voters value Markey's experience, honesty, intelligence, and work ethic. Markey has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013 and previously spent 37 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. The final debate between the two candidates is scheduled for Thursday, ahead of the September 1st primary election.
