Woman Dies in Northeast D.C. Hit-and-Run Incident
A woman tragically died following a hit-and-run incident in Northeast D.C. on Sunday evening, according to an official report from the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred when Fifth District officers were dispatched to a reported traffic crash at the busy intersection of North Capitol Street and New York Avenue NE, responding around 6:51 p.m. The victim was struck by an occupied vehicle, which, instead of remaining at the scene, immediately fled after the collision. Law enforcement later located the vehicle unoccupied nearby, indicating the driver's deliberate attempt to evade responsibility. D.C. Fire and EMS personnel promptly arrived at the scene and transported the injured woman to a local hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, she was reported to be unconscious but still breathing. Despite the diligent and extensive life-saving efforts undertaken by medical professionals, the woman ultimately succumbed to the severe injuries she sustained in the crash.
