Arlington/Falls Church Commonwealth's Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti has voiced deep concern regarding an incident in Arlington, Virginia, where a man, Jose Mejia Hernandez, claims he woke up in a hospital with a brain hemorrhage after being apprehended by ICE. The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 a.m. on August 11, when Mejia Hernandez was walking to work and was allegedly struck by what he believes was a Taser or stun gun. He has no memory of the events following this, only waking up in the hospital with severe facial injuries, including black eyes, bruising, cuts, and stitches. His attorney states that two ICE agents remained at his bedside throughout his hospitalization, and he was not given private time with his doctors. Furthermore, his family was not notified of his detention or injuries for approximately three days.
