San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Sideshows Amid Rising Temperatures
As temperatures rise, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office has launched a new enforcement initiative to combat illegal sideshows in Stockton and across the county. Officials are urging residents to avoid participating in or spectating these events, which have become a persistent issue in the area. The Sheriff's Office has formed a multi-agency task force to preemptively shut down sideshows, a strategy that previously led to the detention of about 150 people and the impoundment of nearly 90 vehicles in February 2024. Despite a decrease in sideshow activity since then, authorities warn that the danger persists, with these events often linked to illegal firearms, narcotics, and gang activity. On the first day of the latest operation, no active sideshows were reported, but enforcement efforts resulted in the towing and impoundment of 60 vehicles and two motorcycles for various violations.
