Ukrainian General's Fake X Account Misleads Thousands Amid Leadership Change
A fake X account impersonating Ukraine's newly appointed commander in chief, Maj. Gen. Mykhailo Drapatyi, has gained significant traction online, amassing nearly 7,000 followers. The account, @Drapatyi_M, has been active since Drapatyi's appointment and has posted numerous updates mimicking official communications from Ukrainian leaders. These posts include messages of gratitude to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discussions with Raytheon executives about military equipment. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed that this account is not legitimate and has provided a list of Drapatyi's official social media pages, which do not include @Drapatyi_M. Despite the account's misleading nature, it has not been marked with a 'parody label,' which is typically used by X to denote non-authentic accounts.
