Winter Storm Names for 2026/2027 Released
The Weather Channel has announced its list of 21 names for severe winter storms expected during the 2026/2027 season. This naming practice, which began in 2012, is intended to raise public awareness and improve communication about significant weather events. Not all storms will receive a name; only those that bring widespread, high-impact snow or ice and prompt National Weather Service warnings, such as winter storm, blizzard, or ice storm warnings, will qualify. The list avoids names currently used for Atlantic and eastern Pacific hurricanes, as well as retired names associated with historic storms. This approach helps the public better track and prepare for severe winter weather events.
