Texas Heatwave Puts State Grid's Power Demand to the Test
A severe heatwave in Texas is pushing the state's power grid to its limits, with demand nearing the all-time record set in August 2023. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (Ercot) reported that demand on Monday afternoon approached 85.508 gigawatts, with forecasts predicting even higher peaks in the coming days. Despite the surge in demand, Ercot confirmed that over 114 gigawatts of power was available to meet the needs. The heatwave has resulted in temperatures exceeding 100°F across major cities like Dallas and Houston, with humidity levels further elevating the heat index.
