Consumer Reports Identifies Dangerous Carbon Monoxide Detector Sold on Amazon, Raises Safety Concerns
Consumer Reports has identified a potentially dangerous carbon monoxide detector sold on Amazon, which has resulted in at least four hospitalizations this year. The detector, marketed under the brand name Hembisen and manufactured by Shenzhen Kanghua Shengshi Industrial Co, LTD, was labeled as an 'Amazon's Choice' product. It is a plug-in CO monitor that also claims to track temperature, humidity, and combustible gas. The model, KH-158, was removed from Amazon following the investigation. Consumer Reports has highlighted the lack of uniform, federally mandated safety standards for carbon monoxide detectors, which places the responsibility on retailers and consumers to ensure product safety. Amazon has responded by removing the detector and similar products from its platform while investigating the safety concerns.
