Patrice Motsepe's Wealth Declines by $800 Million Due to Mining Company Performance
Patrice Motsepe, Africa's first Black billionaire, has experienced a significant reduction in his wealth, losing $800 million since the beginning of 2026. This decline is primarily attributed to the poor performance of his flagship mining company, African Rainbow Minerals (ARM). The company's share price has seen a substantial drop, contributing to the erosion of Motsepe's fortune. As of July 19, 2026, his net worth stands at $3.5 billion, down from $4.3 billion at the start of the year, marking an 18.6% decrease. Despite the downturn, trading activity for ARM remains relatively strong, with the company being one of the most actively traded stocks on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
