Study Suggests Matcha May Reduce Sneezing in Allergy Sufferers
A recent study conducted by researchers in Japan has found that matcha, a traditional Japanese green tea, may help reduce sneezing associated with seasonal allergies. The study involved mice engineered to exhibit human-like allergy symptoms, and it was observed that high doses of matcha extract suppressed sneezing. Unlike typical allergy medications that target the immune system, matcha appears to affect the nervous system, particularly the brainstem area responsible for the sneezing reflex. The bioactive compounds in matcha, such as catechins and L-theanine, are believed to contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties. While the findings are promising, researchers caution that more extensive studies are needed to understand matcha's effects on human sneezing mechanisms.
