Hamilton County Faces Historic Flooding, Initiates Recovery Efforts
Hamilton County, Indiana, is grappling with the aftermath of historic flooding, as the White River crested at approximately 24.60 feet on August 15, 2026, surpassing a 100-year-old record. First responders conducted numerous water rescues across the county. On August 16, county officials and leaders from Hamilton County’s four cities convened to outline damage assessment and recovery plans. Hamilton County Commissioner Christine Altman noted that while hearts go out to those affected by property and infrastructure loss, the focus is now on assessment, recovery, and reconstruction. Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen highlighted that a natural disaster of this magnitude, unseen in 113 years, transcends city and county boundaries, emphasizing collective assistance. Approximately 215 properties in Carmel and 552 homes in Noblesville were impacted, with 40 residents relocated in Carmel. An assessment is underway for a damaged bridge on Hazel Dell Parkway between 106th and 96th Streets.
