Springfield Museum Launches Route 66 Centennial Exhibit Highlighting Cultural Legacy
The History Museum on the Square in Springfield is unveiling a new exhibit titled 'Miles of Memories: Celebrating Route 66's Centennial,' which will be open from June 10 to September 20. This exhibit is a culmination of a five-year series that began in 2022, focusing on various aspects of Route 66's history and cultural impact. Previous exhibits have highlighted diners, service stations, iconic hotels, and cultural attractions along the historic highway. The current exhibit brings together artifacts, photographs, and stories from these past displays, offering a comprehensive look at the businesses and experiences that have shaped Springfield's Route 66 legacy. Sean FitzGibbons, the museum's executive director, emphasized the importance of celebrating not just the road itself but the communities that contributed to its character.
