World Food Movement Provides Meals to U.S. College Students Amid Rising Food Insecurity
The World Food Movement (WFM), inspired by the Akshaya Patra Foundation, has been addressing food insecurity among U.S. college students by providing over 75,000 meals since 2025. The organization, which initially focused on global food insecurity, has shifted some of its efforts to the United States, particularly in the tri-state area, Texas, Massachusetts, Virginia, and California. The program offers hot, nutritious vegetarian meals and weekend nutrition kits to students. This initiative comes in response to alarming food insecurity rates, with one in four college students facing food insecurity and one in seven Americans experiencing this challenge daily. The WFM's efforts are part of a broader response to the growing need for food assistance in the U.S., where food insecurity rates have been rising.
