Bellevue to Deploy Four New Automated Speed Cameras, Issuing Warnings Initially
The city of Bellevue is set to implement four new automated speed cameras starting Monday, with an initial one-month grace period where only warnings will be issued. This initiative aims to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes on city streets. The cameras will be strategically placed in areas identified as having a history of speeding and accidents, including locations near hospitals, parks, and school walk zones. Specific installation sites include 148th Avenue Northeast (between Northeast 13th and 10th places), Northeast Eighth Street (between 167th Avenue and 168th Place), Forest Drive Southeast (between 138th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 60th Street), and Forest Drive Southeast (between Southeast 54th Place and Coal Creek Parkway). Following the grace period, which also allows for equipment calibration and testing, drivers caught speeding will face a $124 fine, with fines doubling to $248 in school zones.
